Subject: Mitutoyo Glass Scales for positional feedback

My mill has Mitutoyo scales on X & Y axis for positional feed back to the control. Can KFLOP use their inputs? This is a large knee mill with Mitutyo Millstar III retrofit. Uses Glentek Servos and Amplifiers, uses a Galil DMC1030 motion control card. The software on the control is limiting, no spindle control. I was thinking of upgrading the motion control to a KFLOP if I could use the rest of the components.

A few pictures of the mill and control can be seen here:

Hi Marty,

I think so.  Do the scales output quadrature?  You would need to add a Kanalog to output +/-10V to the amplifiers.  Hopefully the Amplifiers can operate in Velocity mode.   Try it. Apply a small voltage to the input and see if they move at a controlled speed.

Thanks Tom, I am going to check on the type of output on the Mitutoyo Scales for sure. I don’t think there are encoders on the XY Servos. There is on the Z. Though I think for consistency, perhaps it would be better to do the same on Z?

So I need to get the model number off the Glentek Servo Amps and find out what type they are?
